Shaker Recruitment Advertising & Communications Produces Two Virtual Career Fairs

CHICAGO, IL – Shaker Recruitment Advertising & Communications (SRAC) recently hosted two successful events for clients CTJobs.com and Allstate Insurance Corporation.

CTJobs.com hosted their first virtual career fair, CTJobs.com LIVE!, on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. The goal for this event was to host a regionally focused virtual career fair for the state of Connecticut. CTJobs.com LIVE! drew over 1,800 job seekers from across the state, with 14 local companies exhibiting and recruiting for hiring opportunities.

“Our goal was to reach 1,000 job seekers for our first CTJobs.com LIVE! event, and in partnership with our affiliate newspapers, we surpassed that mark with overwhelming positive feedback from both the exhibitors and job seekers,” says Tina Krater, Virtual Career Fair Event Director & Director of Sales for Shaker Recruitment Consultants.

The second event, held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, was hosted by Allstate Insurance Corporation. In collaboration with Shaker, Allstate organized a nationwide virtual career fair for their Exclusive Agent and Exclusive Financial Representative opportunities. For Allstate’s event, recruiting teams staffed individual booths by geographic region so as to recruit local candidates logging in throughout the day.

“The virtual career fair allowed Allstate to make greater use of technology to find the right people for our Agent and Financial Representative opportunities. The virtual environment made it easy for candidates to submit their resumes for opportunities that matched their qualifications, have a live chat with our Allstate recruiters, or set up a phone interview,” said Laura Stojkovic, Senior HR Consultant and project lead from Allstate Insurance Corporation. “This was our first exclusive virtual fair, and we had a strong response from more than 1,700 candidates. Allstate will definitely consider leveraging virtual career fairs as part of our recruiting strategies going forward.”

In January 2009, Shaker partnered with InXpo to provide companies with a complete solutions package— from training, support and guidance to pre- and post-event marketing for audience generation— to attract talent by hosting their own virtual career fairs. The mutually beneficial relationship enables clients to capitalize on Shaker’s nearly 60 years of recruitment expertise and the advanced technology resources provided by InXpo, the leading provider of real-time virtual events.

yahoo ceo says she may cut hotjobs

In the wake of a management shakeup last week that left Yahoo! CFO Blake Jorgenson without a job, Yahoo’s newly-crowned CEO Carol Bartz is negotiating with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer about a possible Internet search deal.

Last week Ballmer said that the two companies should join forces to compete with Google.

Amid talks about the negotiations with Ballmer, Bartz also said she is considering cutting the HotJobs site.

Yahoo! has closed a number of products recently. Among the casualties was Briefcase, an online storage service.

Yahoo fell 8 cents to $12.50 at 4 p.m. New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading.
